Calling for a participant

4 25th, 2010

We are currently looking for an additional participant for the film. Details below. Please feel free to repost.

“Hafu” -a documentary film about the experiences of mixed-raced Japanese living in Japan is looking for a mixed-Japanese individual who has either recently arrived or is planning to move to Japan within 2010 to participate in the film as a central character.

The documentary “Hafu” will chronicle the everyday lives of five individuals living in Japan. Four of these five stories will be focused on individuals who have spent a considerable amount of time in Japan. However, we the filmmakers recognize that there are many people who identify as being mixed-Japanese who have little or no experience of Japan. Thus we are searching for an individual who would be interested in having their time in Japan documented on film.
Ideally this person has limited experience of Japan and is coming to Japan to spend some considerable time (a few months to a few years) in order to either learn the language, experience the culture and/or discover for themselves what being Japanese means to them. We are looking for someone in the early 20’s -30s range and would like to begin documenting their journey as close as to their arrival to Japan. They can be a student, right out of university, and/or working.

The filmmakers Megumi Nishikura and Lara Perez Takagi, are mixed-race Japanese themselves and their aim is to produce this film for television audiences in Japan and abroad. Their previous productions include documentaries for the United Nations, Associated Press, and various others news and TV productions. In 2009, Megumi produced the Loving Day Flagship Celebration Video (YouTube – Loving Day Flagship Celebration 2009) for the Loving Day Project – an organization which celebrates the day that interracial marriage was legalized in the United States. They are passionate about telling stories that reminds audiences of our common humanity.
